What to prepare before buying
Bulgaria has a clear registration path for second-hand vehicles that were already registered in the EU, EEA or Switzerland. Build the document pack before the vehicle is presented to Traffic Police for identification and registration.
- Bring the purchase document and the previous registration certificate; both parts are relevant where the issuing country uses a two-part certificate.
- Confirm technical-inspection evidence and Bulgarian civil-liability insurance before registration.
- The vehicle is generally presented for identification, so coordinate the arrival date with the registration process rather than leaving the car in storage indefinitely.
