Worked example: from asking price to margin

Illustration with fictional figures. This is not this vehicle’s valuation or an import quote.

  1. Choose the destination country. The real estimate looks for comparable prices and costs for that route.
  2. Add purchase and import expenses to find the total landed cost.
  3. Also deduct holding and selling costs and reserves. Then compare the cautious case with your targets.
Example costs
Car purchase€100,000
Transport€1,500
Registration and inspection€1,000
Preparation€500
Taxes: assumed amount, not a tax rate€7,000
Total landed cost€110,000

Central case
Estimated resale €125,000 − €110,000 landed cost − €1,000 holding − €2,000 reserve − €2,500 selling costs (2%) = €9,500 potential margin.

Cautious case
Use P25: the price at or below which 25% of comparable asking prices fall. €118,000 − €110,000 − €1,000 − €2,000 − €2,360 selling costs (2%) − €1,000 extra risk-signal reserve = €1,640 risk-adjusted margin.

Cautious ROI = 1,640 ÷ 110,000 × 100 = 1.5%. If your targets were €10,000 and 10%, this example would miss both. An attractive price spread alone is not enough to justify buying.

The €7,000 tax amount and other figures are teaching assumptions, not rules for Spain, Poland, Romania or any other country. Comparables are asking prices, not completed sales. Margin is an estimate before income or corporation tax; reserves are not necessarily incurred expenses. If taxes, CO₂, route costs or enough comparables are missing, the tool shows insufficient data and does not calculate a margin. PRO applies available vehicle data and your targets.
